This project reflects on a family history marked by memory loss — something that often accompanies old age and leaves a lasting impact across generations. In response to these lost memories, and in collaboration with my family (my grandmother), I seek to understand my own motivation. Am I trying to make the farewell easier, or am I trying to avoid it altogether?

Through this exploration, I arrive at the realization that while I try to resist forgetting, I ultimately become a prisoner of it. Hence the choice of title, which highlights that both farewell and forgetting are limiting aspects of our human existence — and therefore, inevitable.

By drawing on the properties of the chosen materials, such as absorption and transparency, and incorporating written language, I aim to engage the viewer and invite reflection on these themes.
