This project was a challenge proposed by the Alberto Carneiro Art Center, inviting students to engage with Alberto Carneiro’s work while developing their own artistic interests and concerns.

The process began with a deep exploration of the artist’s work to understand the points of connection between both practices and how they might relate. For the artist, creating this bridge made perfect sense, since her work would be a guest within the museum. She therefore immersed herself in Carneiro’s critical reflections on life, which also resonate with the themes present in her own writing. The main source of research was a publication by Serralves created following the exhibition “Alberto Carneiro Art Life / Life Art Revelations of Energies and Movements of Matter.”

“Art is made to transform the images of daily life.”

“Nature recreates itself in our image and likeness. We are within it, and it channels our aesthetic feelings.”

Motivated by a strong connection to nature and its relationship with humanity, the artist wrote a sentence about the place where she grew up — a space surrounded by nature where she felt truly happy:

“There, the wind kisses me, the birds write dedications, the trees dance and greet me, the sun tans my skin, and time stops, to make me feel, part.”

The sentence was created to give human characteristics to different elements of the environment. By choosing the final word as the title of the work — part — the artist aimed to highlight a double meaning. It refers both to belonging and to leaving. The word is visually distinct from the rest of the sentence in the piece, representing the emotional distance the sculptor experiences by being far from the place where she grew up in order to study in Porto.
